2009 Goals

I have taken the last couple of days to figure out what I want to accomplish in 2009.  My goals for 2008 where to try and become a better swimmer so that I could try some longer distance triathlons in 2009.  After 20,000 yards in 6 months time I realize I am not where I would like to be in the water.  I am worlds better than when I started, but I don’t see myself getting where I would want to be.  I am good with this decision and thus have modified the goals I have for this new year.  And besides, we already have a kick ass triathlete in the family.  Also, the bad economy has changed my first goal event somewhat.  While B and I would really, really love to be in Arizona on January 18 for the Rock ‘n Roll Half Marathon, we just can’t justify spending the money.  So, instead I will run in the :”First Annual, First Ever, Pilcher Half-Marathon.”  Basically I will find 13.1 miles to run in either Moscow or Lewiston, depending and the weather.  I think I could talk B into following along in our car for a mobile aid station.  I figure I have been sticking to the training plan so I owe it to myself to run it.  Hope I win!!!!  After the 18th I will take a week off before starting training for my next big goal event, which will run into the next, and the next, and…you get the point.  So, here is the big reveal for my 2009 goal events:

1. May - CD’A Marathon (first ever for me)

2. July - STP Cycling Classic (1 day - I did 2 days last year)

3. August - CD’A Scenic Challenge Duathlon (first ever for me)

4. Sept. - Palouse Sprint Triathlon (I now have a time to beat, mine from last year)

I think this schedule will keep me pretty busy, and in the process check off a few items on my list.  Plus, I will get to cheer on B for her triathlon events as well.  Should be a good fitness year for the family I think.

I hope everyone had a great holiday last night.

Year In Review

What a great fitness year it was for me.  Growing up I was always an athlete.  I played every sport possible until focusing on Basketball and Track in High School.  I did well enough as a hurdler to earn a partial scholarship to run for the University of Idaho.  After college I stayed active with Park and Rec. leagues and general working out.  As time passed, and life got more interesting and a lot busier the athlete part of me went away and I became like so many others my age just watching on the sidelines.  Little did I know that my wife, someone who by her own admission was never totally interested in athletics, would be the one to bring back my inner athlete.  She is my total inspiration and the reason I continue to push myself with every workout and/or training session I do.  Since last New Years Eve I have finished the STP Cycling Classic and the local Palouse sprint triathlon.  I have swam over 20,000 yards since July 1, which is about 19,500 more yards then I have swam in my life up to that point.  I have dropped close to 15 pounds and kept my weight at a level I have not seen since college.  My cholesterol is back to a healthy range and I feel 20 years younger.  I am running again and remembering what it feels like to get that kick at the end of each run. But most of all I feel like I am back to the athlete I once was many years ago.  This has been a great year to kick start things and I look forward to all the years ahead of me and all the challenges that they will bring.  I would like to wish everyone on sweat365 a happy, healthy new year.  Tomorrow, the first day of 2009, I plan to lay out my goals and race events I plan to enter.  This year was good, but wait until you see what I do next year.  Until then……

Milestone

Today I have gone over 100 hours of working out/training since joining the sweat365 community on July 1 of this year.  Great milestone for me.  And, I am closing in on 100 miles running and 20,000 yards swimming.  What a great way to stay motivated and keep track of my workouts.  Thanks to everyone for their kind words and encouragement.  And a special thanks to Bridie to continues to be my best inspiration!!! I heart you B!

The clock is on

So I added a countdown clock for the Arizona Rock n’ Roll Half Marathon on January 18. I plan to start a 8 week training program tomorrow. Birdie and I will be doing this together and I am really looking forward to it.

We have not actually signed up for the race due to financial concerns, but I am 75% sure it will happen. Either way we could both get oursevles in better overall shape.

It all starts tomorrow!!!

Small changes

I made some small changes to my fitness goals.  B and are made a commitment last night to get back on track with eating and exercise starting today.  It’s go time.  I think we have identified a half marathon to run and training will begin soon, I’ll have more on that next week.

Until then, YOU KNOW WHAT TIME IT IS!!!!

Back is not better

OK, so yesterday morning I was feeling much better, even thinking I’d be able to get in the pool that afternoon….then the unthinkable happened. I sneezed. And not just any sneeze, and big, body shaking nose rattling, monster sneeze. This sneeze sent a bolt of lightning to my back and basically put me on the shelf longer. I have not had it hurt this bad for a long, long time. So, I have tremendous back pain and frustration from not working out. This sucks. I am hoping to get it better by Monday so I can get going again. Wish me luck!!!

You know what time it is!!!!
