Good run today


I pulled a double today with the strength training and the run.  Today I went to the High School track, which was just resurfaced last month.  It looked great.  My training called for 30 minuets of running today but I wanted to make sure I got under 10 min. miles and I was in lane 5 which equaled 1.08 miles per 4 laps.  I don’t have those kind of math skills so I just went the full 12 laps and it took the 30:20 posted.  Not too shabby.

Today was so much better in the pool than on Monday. First, I had a lane all to myself the whole 20 minutes. Second, I really feel like I got a great workout in today. I worked a lot with the kickboard, working on drills, kicking, breathing and all. I did do 100 yards without and felt a little better than I have before. Before CD’A Ironman I reminded Birdie to swim one buoy at a time and it won’t seem so daunting. Well, I am taking my own advice and working one length in the pool at a time. My goal is to finish the sprint tri in September, not set a world record. Slow and steady wins the race!!!

I was on the bowflex today and it felt great. I can really tell the difference in myself with this training, diet plan and getting to bed earlier and getting up earlier. I have a great attitude, in a great mood, feel really good about the way I look and feel. And the best part is I can see the same thing happening with Birdie. It would be tought to stay motivated by yourself. She is truly my inspiration!

Bad swim…bad, bad swim


Well, today was not great. I was slow, really slow. I attribute this to four things. 1) I am still very, very bad at swimming, 2) I used a kickboard for the first 150 yards, and you can’t go too fast when you are not using your arms, 3) The pool was jammed today so I had to share a lane with two other, much better swimmers…gotta avoid Monday’s, and 4) Please refer again to #1.

There are two things I do know….I will get more endurance the more I swim, and once that happens I will get more comfortable in the pool!!!

For the first time in over 15 years I am able to put a 1 a the start of my weight. Hoping to get down to 195 and stay.

Swimming lessons part 2


I think my second adult swim lesson was better than my first, but not by much. I am mostly working on breathing more comfortably in the water and trying to build my swimming endurance. I think I’ll be spending most of my swimming training with kickboards as I improve both of these areas. My swimming partner looked great in the water, and she started just like me about a year ago so I feel encouraged.
